Laminator Information

Roll Laminators are made to encapsulate and protect either a single side or both sides of material. This entails putting your material to be laminated into the laminator feeding tray as the feeder rollers pull in your sheet and applies the laminating film. Lamination film is made of clear plastic with an thermal activated adhesive base on one side of the film. As the lamination film makes its way through the lamination process, this adhesive is heated and seals the material into the lamination film. There should not be any cloudy or milky spots in the result, if there are, the laminator is not working at the right temperature.

The film is typically mounted on two feeder rollers - one above and one below the laminator. The lamination film is then sent into the feeding tray where both lamination films join together - adhesive side to adhesive side - with your material between the two films. The lamination film should melt clearly into your material and bond to it. The film exits with your finished product from the back of the laminator. Once it comes out of the laminator, you have to cut or trim the excess film off. We carry several trimmers for this purpose.

BindingStuff carries both the Roll Laminators and the Pouch Laminators. Both styles are Thermal laminators - heat activated. Laminating is a simple process, the key is choosing which laminating system is best for your needs.

A pouch laminator is easiest to use; especially if you have a low number of items to laminate. The laminating pouches come in a number of different sizes: from ID card pouches to Letter (8.5 x 11), Legal (8.5 x 14) and Menu (11 x 17) pouches. Once you get the right size and thickness pouch, insert your material to be laminated into the pouch, then into the laminator carrier sheet (not all laminators need this)and then into the pouch laminator feed tray. The laminator will grasp the pouch and pull it through. It will come out laminated and ready to use in just a few seconds as it cools off.
